Asphalt Shingles
Roof pictured has ELK Capstone fibreglass shingles.
There are many types of shingles presently on the market, all of which
can be classed into one of two groups.
- Organic Shingles:
This type of shingle is very durable and can be applied in extreme weather
conditions. It consists of a felt base coated in a thick mat of asphalt.
The exposed surface is covered with a layer of ceramic granules, protecting
the shingle from the elements.
- Fibreglass Shingles.
You have to be careful when choosing to apply fibreglass shingles to your roof.
One factor to consider is how cold the temperature is when you are
applying the shingles. If it is extrememly cold outside (close to freezing) these shingles tend to crack when handled wrong.
Spring through Fall is ideal conditions for applying fibreglass shingles.
